TV program.

I decided to explore the www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer site, I looked for consumers TV show and then I found out “All over the shops” program. In this program Geoff Burch is looking for some unsuccessful local shops and guides them about how to improve their shops performance. He says:”the purpose is to make money, and the way is to give the costumer what he wants”. In the program he takes 3 small businesses and teaches the owners how to turn a profit and how to please their customers. According to Geoff, professionalism is the key in order to make a hobby in to successful business.
At the program Geoff shows the owners their problems and tutors them to the solution. The owners have one month to implement his tips and to make changes in their shops. This show is about marketing and consumers therefore I found it very interesting and contributing for me, I learned some new words and listened to professional language

WebLearn

Yesterday I decided to practice my grammar and vocabulary skills, I used the weblearn resources. The first site I used was: http://weblearn.londonmet.ac.uk/webct/urw/lc4130011.tp0/cobaltMainFrame.dowebct. In this site I found many grammar exercises in different levels (easy, intermediate and difficult).
I decided to focus on prepositions, comparison and conjunctions.
In addition to the exercises, I found comprehensive information on each subject you chose. I also explored the next website:
http://weblearn.londonmet.ac.uk/webct/urw/lc4130011.tp0/cobaltMainFrame.dowebct, unfortunately I didn’t find it very useful.
In order to practice my vocabulary I used the next site:
http://www.uefap.com/vocab/vocfram.htm. The biggest advantage of this website is that one can learn and enrich his language in many fields such as: criminal law, business, music, computer science and a lot more. In addition, I used the vocabulary building section and exercises. I find this site very beneficial because I could find some exercises which helped me assimilate the new words that I learned after each learning section.

Language skills analysis.

My strongest areas which reflect from the tablet are mainly listening and vocabulary. In my everyday routine I enjoy watching TV and movies, I try to do this without subtitles, therefore I’m exposed to the language, and learn some new words. My goal is to improve my English and to be familiar with new terms and expressions, especially in the fields which can help me in the future while applying for a job. I would try to look for interesting articles and TV programs which contain professional terminology.
Although I don’t speak English flowingly I believe that my current speaking skill is enough to cope with the everyday routine. However in order to work in London I need to improve my speaking skills and become more sure with my abilities, I should also learn how to express myself better with a higher language level.
My weaknesses as shown from the tablet are defiantly writing and grammar. Hebrew is very different from English, it’s written from right to left and the letters are dissimilar to Latin letters. In the course I need to improve my writing skills and my grammar skills as well. I plan to improve my grammar skills by using a grammar book, and focus on my weak areas.
So far, I feel that the course has helped me and gave me more confidence to express myself.

My visit to Regents Park and London zoo

Two weeks ago I went with my friends to London zoo, since it was a really nice day we decided to walk through Regents Park first.
In the park’s entrances you can see a very unique sculptures garden when you can take a picture and read information about the artist and his work. After taking a walk we stopped for a picnic break in the sun. In the park you can find benches and a small cafĂ©, and in a sunny day I recommend to walk through the park on your way to the zoo, its take about 20-30 minutes from the tube station(you can also take a bus from the tube station). You can also bring some nuts for the squirrels, they’re very friendly :).

The zoo opening hours are every day 10:00-16:00, last entrance is at 15:00. The price for students is £12.40 or £13.90 for adults. In the zoo you can see 650 different animals’ species such as: giraffes, lions, tigers, camels, birds, monkey and a lot more.
The amazing thing is that every animal is being kept in a similar environment like it used to live in nature. In the zoo you can find special exhibitions, for example African bird safari, butterfly paradise, a big aquarium, reptile house and a lot more fascinating sites.

I especially enjoyed the gorilla kingdom, I had never been so close to one before, and in London zoo you might see them through a window glass if they decide to come near you. I also fed a penguin, and I can truly say that it is a unique experience. In the brochure which you get when you enter the zoo you can find some daily activities free of charge (like birds and animals’ shows). In the way out you can find the gift shop which has a variety of soft animal dolls where you can find your favorite animal.
Have fun!

A little bit about myself...

Shalom everybody, my name is Sivan Dror, I’m 27 years old and I’m from Israel.

I arrived in London a month ago and I’m living here with my husband in a nice flat in Islington. Back home I was studying Law and Business Management for the last 4.5 years and in the next summer I should get my diploma so I’m really excited about it!!
The filed I liked the most was marketing, I enjoyed the lectures and the seminars, it’s was very interesting.

Since I will be in the UK for the next two years I decided to improve my English skills, therefore I registered to the Academic English course in London Metropolitan University.
In the future I see myself working for a big corporation, in marketing, probably in brand development.

In my free time I love cooking, and mainly baking. On weekends I love to travel around London and look for interesting new sites
My favored sport activity is Pilates, mainly because you don’t sweat J

I hope the time here in London will be exciting and fulfilling, I’m looking forward to meet new people from different cultures.

Enjoy my blog …
